Charlene Choi (Ah Sa) disclosed yesterday that she and Ronald Cheng have
ended their 6 years love affairs. Ah Sa was in Beijing attending a
promotion activity for the movie "Beauty On Duty" yesterday. The
reporters kept asking her whether she has accepted Ronald's proposal? Ah
Sa was in flood of tears and she told the reporters that they have in
fact split up for a while. However, Ah Sa said they are still friends.
Yesterday, a magazine reported that Ah Sa and Ronald secretly got
married in Los Angeles in 2006, parents from both of them attended the
wedding ceremony. iT gave everybody a shock to hear that they have split
up. Ah Sa said "We have split up for a while. We didn't intend to bring
it to the open, but there have been so many rumors about us recently. I
feel I have to clarify our relationship now. We have separated because
we have understood each other so well, not because of a third person or
the wedding rumor. We have good memories together and we are still
friends." As Sa was in tears and she added "This is the last time I will
talk about my person affairs. I have split up with him for a long time
and I hope the media don't portray us as a happy couple. We are not
together anymore." The reporters were all stunned after hearing that.
Afterwards, some reporters contacted Ronald who was in Chengdu to
clarify if it is true that he and Ah Sa have separated, Ronald told the
reporter it is true that they have split up a long time ago and they are
still friends.
Ah Sa and Ronald were working on the movie "Sniper August 15" in 2004.
They were dating underground for a while. It was not a good start
because Ronald has been in trouble for being drunken and disorderly. Ah
Sa has been busy working on her own since "Twins" were disbanded. They
didn't spend a lot of time together. Also because they were seeing each
other secretly, they could only spend time together staying indoors.
Most of the time were spent at home watching DVD or out some where far
away from the crowd for dinner or to watch a movie.
Ronald spends a lot of time abroad, but Ah Sa often knows his where
about. If she can't find him, she gets very jealous and upset. That is
why last year, Ronald made a point of talking about his girl friend in
public. He also mentioned about getting married. Even recently, when he
had a magazine interview, he still maintained that he is saving up to
get married. There was another rumor that Ah Sa had thought about
getting married to him, but she is not 100% confident about their
relationship. Since the Edison Chan/Gillian Chung's (Ah Gill) sex
scandal, Ah Sa has learned how to protect herself. Ah Sa and Ronald
started having different directions and goals in life, leading to their
separation.
In January, Ah Sa had an interview by MingPao. She gave some hints about
the state of their relationship, but did not reveal that they have
split up. She said she has discovered that there are more important
things in her life than love and relationship. She was hoping to change
her lifestyle. Last month, Ah Sa and Ah Gill were guests in Stephen
Chan's "Be My Guest". Stephen asked her if she is worried that her
boyfriend had a lot of history of love affairs? Ah Sa said "He wouldn't
be my boyfriend if he is flirting around. But everyone has a history, so
is he and so am I. Nobody is perfect. The most important thing is
whether we can get along well together."

The recent scandal over TVB GM Stephen Chan’s arrest for alleged
corruption has so far played out like one of the station’s own dramas.
Though Stephen Chan and 4 others have now been released on bail awaiting
further investigation, there does not seem to be an end in sight to the
ongoing saga, with one person after another ‘spilling the beans’ on the
inner workings and disarray at TVB. Of course, the ‘biggest’ news so
far has been the rumors that Stephen Chan was ‘turned in’ to the ICAC by
none other than his employer TVB due to his ‘falling out of favor’ with
top management. As for TVB being overrun by ‘parties’ and ‘cliques’,
this is a well-known ‘secret’ by almost everyone in the industry.
Virginia Lok, Catherine Tsang, Tommy Leung, and Stephen Chan are the
‘head’ of the executive team and have the power to control and promote
artists. If Stephen Chan loses all power due to the scandal, then the
competition of the ‘4 parties’ will be greatly affected, resulting in
only 3 parties remaining (Virginia Lok, Catherine Tsang, Tommy Leung).
Out of the 3, it has been rumored that Mona Fong’s ‘favorite’ Virginia
Lok would likely prevail and the group of young artists under her would
become the ‘face’ of TVB in the future.
With the commotion surrounding Stephen Chan’s case now, the developments
and the way things are playing out in the media rival that of the
inner palace conflicts and struggles in TVB’s highly-rated hit from last
year <<Beyond the Realm of Conscience>> -- except that the
real-life events are even more dramatic and interesting.
Part 1: The 4
Parties
The Chan Party –
Leader: Stephen Chan
Stephen Chan: TVB’s General Manager, used to be a DJ. Prior to being
arrested, he did the ‘voiceovers’ for various TVB variety and specialty
shows and simultaneously hosted the interview show <<Be My
Guest>>. Since becoming GM, Stephen’s presence has been quite
strong and his flamboyance has attracted many to him. It is rumored
that Stephen ‘loves’ promoting the artists that others [managers] don’t
want – the greatest example is Fala Chan, whom he single-handedly pushed
to the “Best Supporting Actress” position. TV Queen Sheren Tang, who
is known for constantly going against Virginia Lok, is also highly
favored by Stephen. In addition, Patrick Tang, Amigo Chui, etc. – also
his favorites – were able to win many awards at the 2007 TVB
Anniversary Awards ceremony, though there was a lot of backlash
afterwards.
Favorite Male Artists – Amigo Chui, Sammul Chan, Patrick Tang, Wong Hei,
etc.
Favorite Female Artists – Sheren Tang, Fala Chan, Tavia Yeung, etc.
The Lok Party –
Leader: Virginia Lok
Virginia Lok: TVB’s Production and Resources Manager, with primary
jurisdiction over all matters related to TVB’s artists; also one of the
“official” representatives and spokesperson for the artists. The “Lok”
Party consists primarily of the newer generation ‘siu sangs’ and
‘fa-dans’. With her position, it can be said that the fate of ALL TVB
artists is in her hands. Virginia Lok has made quite a few new artists
popular through promotion – Kevin Cheng is the biggest example of this.
Back in the days, Kevin Cheng had been in the industry for a long time,
but was never able to become popular until he officially became
Virginia Lok’s “god-son” – after that, he started getting lead roles in
series after series (most of them grand productions), which paved the
way for his ‘TV King’ award in 2006.
Favorite Male Artists – Kevin Cheng, Moses Chan, Raymond Lam, Ron Ng,
Bosco Wong, etc.
Favorite Female Artists – Charmaine Sheh, Myolie Wu, Linda Chung, Kate
Tsui, etc.
The Tsang Party
– Leader: Catherine Tsang
Catherine Tsang: TVB’s Production Department Head (Series); was once a
broadcaster at RTHK; affectionately nicknamed “Jen Jie” by the artists.
Catherine started with TVB in 1974 and has been credited with launching
the careers of HK’s biggest stars such as Chow Yun Fat, Andy Lau, Tony
Leung, etc. She has gone through both the ‘Run Run Shaw era’ as well as
the ‘Mona Fong era’ and has remained strongly standing to this day.
The Tsang Party consists almost entirely of the most skilled and
talented artists (in terms of acting) in TVB, however because
Catherine’s focus has always been on directing behind the scenes,
coupled with much of the power being in Virginia Lok’s hands, so her
artists are never heavily promoted.
Favorite Male Artists: Bobby AuYeung, Steven Ma, Wayne Lai, etc.
Favorite Female Artists: Ada Choi, Maggie Cheung, Shirley Yeung, etc.
The Leung Party
– Leader: Tommy Leung
Tommy Leung: TVB Producer; Head of Series Production. Started with TVB
in 1973 and is considered an ‘elder’-type figure [started with the
company from the beginning]. His specialty includes grand commercial
productions. 2001 was the “Year of Leung’s Party”, as the ‘siu sangs’
and ‘fa dans’ under him at that time – Louis Koo, Gallen Lo, Jessica
Hsuan, Flora Chan, etc. – were all “high ratings guarantees”. After
strong competition with Tsang’s Party for many years, Leung’s Party had
already lost some of it’s steam – then, when Virginia Lok came to power
in 2003, his Party had to battle with hers as well. Currently, almost
all of Leung’s artists have left TVB.
Favorite Male Artists: Gallen Lo, Roger Kwok, Louis Koo, etc.
Favorite Female Artists: Sonjia Kwok, Jessica Hsuan, Flora Chan, etc.
*********************************
[TN: This is a very interesting article, but
because it’s so long, I am separating it into several parts. Part 1
introduces the various ‘parties’ (cliques) in TVB. Part 2 will
chronicle the evolution (and demise) of each Party.]

Since Suki Tsui has given birth to her daughter on March 15, husband
Kenny Wong has been staying in the hospital looking after her and their
daughter Vianna. He was so excited on that day that he didn't sleep all
night, but kept looking at the baby. Suki has recovered very quickly. It
is envisaged that the family of three will be going home on Saturday.
Kenny said Suki has made a speedy recovery and her wound is not hurting
her anymore. Suki has established breast feeding now and it is so
convenient. Kenny said his daughter is very cute, especially with her
facial expressions. He has taken many pictures of her. Two nights
ago, Vianna started sleeping with them. She made so many funny noises
as well as sucking her thumb, yawning and stretching herself. He kept
looking hat her till 7am the next morning. Kenny went on to say he is
beginning to know what Vianna is doing by her expression. When
Vianna appears to be shaking, he knows she is doing a "Poo" and he will
change her diaper within 5 minutes to make her more comfortable.

Alleged that TVB 5 Tigers to collaborate in new film
The 50 days countdown of Expo 2010 Shanghai China had already started,
Goodwill Ambassador Andy Lau would be coming to Shanghai on 15 March to
attend the Expo 2010 Ambassador Preparation meeting and a series of
charity activities. Jackie Chan, Yao Ming and Lan Lan are also
ambassadors of the expo. Insiders revealed that Andy had another task on
hand as he was entrust by Run Run Shaw to discuss matters on the TVB 5
Tigers online game – Handed down Disciples (literally translated from
‘Chuan Shi Qun Ying Zhuan’) and film of the same name.
With regards to this news, reporters tried to contact Andy’s assistant
Joe and found out that indeed Andy would be in Shanghai on 15 March to
attend Expo 2010 activities, whereas he could not discuss on other
matters before hanging up the phone.
Among the TVB 5 Tigers, Andy is not the oldest, however being loyal, he
has the highest regards. With regards to the “betrayal” of Tony Leung
Chiu Wai, Andy still treat him as a brother thus it can be seem his
loyalty in friendship. In the earlier Andy’s concert at the Hong Kong
Coliseum, it’s a regret with the absence of Tony, thus Run Run Shaw is
heading the gathering of the TVB 5 Tigers. Andy would like this to
happen and would do his best to achieve this.
Other than Andy and Tony, the other 3 tigers had not been so active in
showbiz, thus this gathering could be the last performance of the TVB 5
Tigers as a unit.
According to insider, the film company is also serious about this
collaboration, other than a huge investment of more than $30 million, it
was decided that the film will be based on the popular online game
Handed down Disciples, it has a 10 years history and more than 1 billion
registered accounts. With the TVB 5 Tigers in the cast, this give the
popularity and box office confidence, it will also present the best of
the 5 Tigers to the audience.

Baker. When they asked her whether she knows the matter regarding Mr Ou
replacing Mr Stephen Chan in all his duties, she said, “Mr Ou? I met him
before. I know which one. But actually, there are no such things as
replace or not replace. Some peoples may go and some peoples may come.”
When asked whether there are any effects on her job due to personnel
changes, Tavia said, “I only film series every day and do my own job.”
When talked about high level management that organized birthday party
last year and accepted many expensive gifts from artistes, Tavia said,

When Myolie Wu accepted Cha Siu Yan's phone interview, with regards to
the photos of rumored boyfriend, Bosco Wong, holding onto a lady being
leaked out, she said, "I've nothing to comment about. We'll contact each
other through the phone from time to time. But won't talk about these
problems. (Tell him not to hold onto girls?) It's not within my control.
Every time also leave such 'romance troubles' to me! (Which is more
tiring - responding to such matters or filming action scenes?) Of course
responding is more tiring lah! Recently, I haven't got to see him. I'm
more into playing on my cell phone all the time."

Stephen Chen held a press conference: Case is still under
investigation; Falsehood can’t be true.
2010/03/18 Today at 3:30 pm Stephen Chan held a short press conference
at Regal Hong Kong Hotel at East Tsim Sha Tsui to address the ICAC case.
Since his arrest on 3/11, this is his first time responding to media
questions. A hundred or so reporters gathered at the venue. When the
conference starts, Stephen’s lawyer, Ivan, makes his appearance first.
Stephen, wearing a black jacket over his pink shirt, appears soon after,
and stands behind the table letting the reporters take his pictures.
Stephen thanks his friends for their concern, as well as the Mongkok
flower vendor for his buy one get one free pomelo leaves. He expresses
that his daily life continues as usual, like going out to eat and for
personal health check-up. And that the purpose for arranging this press
conference is to avoid chaos arises from wrangling interviews.
Stephen expresses that due to the ongoing investigation, he cannot
discuss the details just yet but he can speak of things that media might
find interesting. Such as: “Why he wore a mask after leaving ICAC?”
Stephen jests because he knew the press would be waiting for him so he
wanted to look presentable, but when he was shaving he accidentally
nicked his face, hence the mask. He did not want the press to
misunderstand that the wound on his face came from ICAC.
Stephen also asserts his life is fine, don’t worry and thank everybody
for their concern. He candidly admits that ICAC case has brought
changes to his life. He says: Whose lives do not go through changes?
If you are confronted with some inexplicable changes, please, don’t be
scared, don't panic, and don’t give up, because what's real cannot be
made fake, what's fake cannot be made real."
Then he left the scene without responding to the reporters’ questions.
Apparently during the conference, Wong Hei, who has previously visited
Stephen at this apartment, was there too to support his support.
-----------------------------------
Must say Stephen's calm and affable appearance, and holding his head
high truly impressed me. His EQ's really high! He is not going to go
away with a fight.
note: Much appreciate if someone can come up with a
more appropriate translation for [真的假不了,假的真不了].
Like a one liner or a slogan that rolls smoothly off the tongue, like
its Chinese counterpart.

Director Dante Lam of ‘The Beast Stalker’, Leon Lai and Richie Ren
leading in police-bandit action movie ‘Fire of Conscience’ will soon hit
the screens on 1st April. Besides the two male leads having war zone
action scenes, sexy actress Michelle Ye too sacrificed her long hair,
becoming the one ‘lady officer’ in the film.
‘Fire of Conscience’ (in Chinese it is literally ‘Fire Dragon’) title
originates from Hong Kong’s fire dragon dance show. In 1880 mid-autumn
festival, there was an epidemic breakout, the people then depended on
fire dragon dance to battle with this epidemic. Director Dante Lam
expressed: “Fire dragon dance allowed me to recall everyone has an
‘epidemic’ within them, when your will is weak, it will win over your
rationale and conscience, thus I think the significance of fire dragon
dance and the people I usually film with matches, a very suitable
simile.”
Michelle Ye’s tough appearance in ‘Fire of
Conscience’, sacrificed her long hair to become ‘lady officer’
Michelle Ye plays Leon’s assistant in the film as a police officer and
is assigned a tough appearance. She specially cut her years of long
hair short, however she did not feel that it was a pity: “I feel that
short hair is the best portrayal of a police officer’s style, since I’ve
accepted (to play) this role, I will put my best efforts in, long hair
can be grown again.” Meanwhile, during filming, she too has numerous
action scenes to accomplish, among them she was to dash seven streets in
one shot with Leon Lai, when talked about this, she expressed: “I do
workout usually, but I really have no idea how far I actually ran that
day, director filmed a few times, he wanted to give audience a longer
(running) scene, we ended up running down 7 streets, after we finished
the scene, I no longer know where I actually was.” Towards Michelle’s
performance, Director Dante Lam gave her very high praises: “Michelle
cut her long hair of several years just for this movie and brought to
life a frontline and earnest police officer, she is the few Hong Kong
actress who is able to handle war zone and action scenes well. She used
to give the impression of gracefulness with a tad of sexiness, but it
seems like she is good with tough too. After watching ‘Fire of
Conscience’, (audience will) definitely have higher regards for her.
Because be it chasing scenes or firing (guns) action scenes, they’re all
very nice to watch and you can definitely feel her diligence and
efforts in filming.”
Sighing it’s ‘cool to have guns’, praises Leon Lai
to be tender, hard to forget ‘admiration’ scenes
Michelle Ye has been using her sexy female image in the past works, when
talked about her transformation into a resolute police officer, she was
very excited: “it’s definitely very different from my roles in the
past, it was more feminine in the past, wearing glamorous clothes, but I
like the simplicity of this movie, sexiness is not in what you wear,
but what your spirit is, I feel that holding a gun is sexy.” Talking
about her relationship scenes in the movie, Michelle Ye expressed: “She
is a weak person in relationship, she admires Leon Lai yet dares not
confess and silently helps him with everything, she is a reserved
person.” Talking about her having numerous scenes with Leon Lai,
Michelle Ye humbly expressed: “He is a very easy going person, and very
nice, tender and delicate towards girls, there were several times when
we filmed dangerous scenes, he took care of me well.”

 This
week, YouTube singing sensation Charice Pempengco's second single off
her first album Pyramid got its official U.S. mainstream radio release.
But even before the major U.S. radio airplay, "Pyramid," the single, has
been a favorite among the digitally downloaded songs from iTunes and
other digital download stores on the Internet. The remix version was
released on iTunes on February 23 this year, while the album
version—which is currently enjoying airplay among major U.S. radio
stations—was released on March 2, the same day the official music video
of this song was released.
NOTE TO GOD. Last year, Charice launched her first single "Note To God"
in the Oprah Winfrey Show. It was her first single from her much-awaited
album Pyramid under mentor David Foster's label 143 and Warner Brothers
Group's Reprise Records.
"Note To God" was first sung by R&B singer JoJo in 2006 and was
given to Charice by no less than the composer of the song, multi-awarded
composer and Songwriters Hall of Famer Diane Warren ("Because You Loved
Me," "Unbreak My Heart," "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing"), who said she
wanted Charice right away to re-record "Note To God" after she heard her
voice.
"Pyramid", which also features Virgin Islands singer-rapper Iyaz, was
written by Swedish songwriter David Jassy and R&B singer Lyrica
Anderson and produced by music production group Twin.
Yesterday, New York Post's "PopWrap" section listed "Pyramid" as one of
the "fave five music" for this week. "PopWrap" is the U.S. broadsheet's
pop culture and lifestyle section.
Currently, "Pyramid" places No. 26 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Club
Play chart. Billboard is considered the Bible of the U.S. music industry
and the "holy grail" of the U.S. entertainment industry. It is regarded
as one of the most relevant and unbiased sources of information on the
music industry in the U.S.
Charice's international debut album under Warner Records is scheduled to
be released on May 11, 2010.
